Centre county Pennsylvania, USA | I also think your idea has merit. It's one of several ways to solve guidance problem when folks mix self propelled and pull-behind equipment for row crops. All of those several solutions appear to have their own set of good and bad features. Row "feeler" solution doesn't work if there is no row to "feel", like when we spray following planter and before emergence, but your idea would work for that case. One bad feature for your idea is that some farmer would discover he no longer needs to plant straight rows, thats bad because town folks would talk about farmers not planting straight rows.
Maybe Kinze or Deere will invent self propelled planter? I think that would solve the guidance problem also. Self propelled planter shouldn't cost much more than current generation of pull-behind planters. I can remember seeing the first self propelled sprayer in this area, now they seem to be more plentiful than pull-behind sprayers. |
