Subject: RE: Autopilot-gps-planting corn & combining corn

Pittsburg, Kansas

I think your idea has merit but it would seem to me to be easier to just let the combine follow the rows by using an appropriate sensor to sense where the row is located rather than try to do it from outter space. The RTK gps could bring you in on the right row then a row sensor take over the steering once on the correct row.

I have suggested this before and I think some companies are probably working on it. Clauss already offers corn head auto steering. Looks like if Trimble (or any other company) could just tie a row sensor into their electronic/hydraulic steering system (preferably electronic sensor rather than "feelers") it would be a rather simple solution for corn, or wheat and beans for that matter.

Of course to a guy with a hammer everything looks like a nail so I guess if you are a GPS company every problem has to be solved with a GPS solution so it might not happen very quickly - or ever.

John
