What you've been doing is exactly the way 99.9% of farmers (actually 100% of the ones I deal with) do it. I'm sure someone will report the value and intricacies, legalities, etc. of doing it another way, but "personally" I've never seen it reported any way other than the way your doing it, so just soldier on.
