Maybe someday the satellite correction signals will make RTK obsolete...

I am exactly the opposite.  I think that RTK will make the satellite correction signals obsolete.  I am running as much as 29 miles from my base station.  I may not get quite 2" accuracy at that range, but it is very close.  The implement drift problem is much larger than the GPS accuracy.  At 20 miles from the base, the repeatability of RTK appears to be dead on.  We are seeing more and more RTK base stations come on line all the time.  The DOT of my state wants to cover the entire state with RTK corrections.  And they want to make it a free signal.  We are seeing more and more options to transmit those signals also.  Many of these options have much better range than radios.  We are still in the infancy of this technology.  If you think the changes in the last 10 years are mind boggling, you won't believe what is coming in the next 10 years.
