SE SD | Was talking to a parts man today about how I wish my Ford tw 35 had 540 rpm pto capabilities like a tw 25. He said it's not that big of a job to put the 540 gears in. Just need the correct upper gear and lower gear and correct shaft. Anybody ever done this? Is it really that easy? Suppose an auto repair guy like myself could tackle a project like this? Pulaski, TN | I thought the 35 had the capabilities to use a 540 pto but not the TW30. I could be wrong, have been before--plenty. Anyway, I was going to buy a TW30 and change the gears. I was told all I needed was the gears out of a TW25. If memory serve me right, you have to pull the lift cover and change the gears. I can look in the service manual and see how to get to the gears and post tomorow. I have my TW25 in the shop getting it ready for the spring and that is where the manual is.

SE SD | My dad has a tw 20 so one day I sat them side by side and pulled both pto shafts and the tw 35 is missing the gears that the 540 shaft would engage. The parts guy gave me an exploded view with part numbers and the 35 is different, basically just "missing" the 540 gears. I think this will work but I would like to know for sure before I start buying gears and shafts. I would appreciate any info you could give me. Feel free to e-mail me. kjungATitctelDOTcom Thanks again, Kelly '

Fancy prairie, Illinois | I did it to a TW30 and it is pretty easy. I believe you just pull out the top link casting and the 2 foot shaft connected to it. Then pull the bottom plate off, pull the pto shaft. Then take out the 4 bolts holding the pto housing it and the two lower gears come out the bottom. I think? It's been a while since I did it, I do remember it was really easy though.

Southern Lower Michigan | It is an easy job. Did It to a 8830 last year. The pto gears are all the same from a TW5 to the 8830. The TW30-8830 are just missing the two 540 set.(has a spacer in place of the bottom gear). Just like said above. remove the center link casting, and the bottom plate, pull the pto shaft, and the new gears slip right in. Not hard at all. There was one of the salvage yards selling the set of gears needed to put the 540 in these tractors. Can't remember if it was Abalene Machine, or Bootheel tractor. Joe

Pulaski, TN | Service manual says to take the back off the rear housing. This lets the pto shaft come out. The plate underneath just beneath the pto gears has to come off. This is how the pto gears come out. The manual shows the lift cover off but doesn't tell why. When I researched this some time ago, I was told the gears out of a TW 25 would be the only ones that would work. Seems like I priced the gears from a salvage yard. With this cost plus the TW30 was quite a ways away, I decided on a TW20. If you do this let us know what is costs. TW 30 and 35's are fairly cheap around here. Good luck

NW Ohio, near Findlay | What are you running on PTO. For years we run 540 stuff on JD 1000 shaft, have adapator from 1000 to 540 and slow down tractor.

SE SD | Went to All States Ag Parts in Salem this morning, they had a set of gears and a shaft in a tw 20 that they said would work. Usually they are sold out of them because this is such a popular option. They have to pull them out next week and I'll see if they fit next weekend. I'll post on here how it turns out, I think they will fit fine. They want $850 for the parts which doesn't seem out of line, about half of new price. Thanks for your help!! Kelly
