The key is that Dave is talking about the ISP's of the remote locations... not your DirecWay ISP. Dave's right. About 1 in 5 hotels that our team ever stays at don't allow us to send e-mail with Outlook through SMTP, but I can use our WebMail server and survive in those cases. Then we flag the hotel to go onto our list of places we won't stay again (and leave a comment to that effect with management).

When Nanse books us hotels, she always asks about high-speed internet connection. A few years ago, many people had no clue what she was asking about. Now, she has instructions to ask "can we send e-mail with Outlook through your internet connection". Almost all people have no clue what she is talking about. But, she has run into a couple of hotels where the desk clerk has taken enough grief from an unhappy guest that they have told her no.

Your new wireless provider apparently has a policy that prevents you from sending through e-mail servers that are not within their network.
