Don, we switched to (Trimble) GPS speed for Raven controller last year. James likes the GPS speed much better than radar or wheel magnet speed. He says it seems to be more stable and more accurate than radar or wheel magnets and had no speed dropouts when working next to tree lines. GPS speed takes a one time calibration for each controller. We calibrated by adjusting speed box pulse rate such that speed readout on controller equaled speed readout on GPS. No further calibration needed. I think the Garmin that comes with the Rawson GPS speed box is a 200 dollar GPS receiver so it's not a cost item. I believe all Garmins are specified for speed accuracy of 0.1 MPH, that's plenty of accuracy for controller use and (probably) better operating accuracy than wheel magnet or radar speed.

We have a Starfire iTC also, James is still trying to find a use for it. It replaced a 200 dollar Garmin receiver on the combine, yield maps look the same..........
