Manitoba | One thing Jim could do with that notorious hiefer who lost the calf is butcher her.Over the last number of years I've butchered 3- 2 yr. old hiefers.One lost a calf,one had aborted,one was open.I find that at that age(around 24-28 mnths.)and after a couple months of getting fed hay and a small amount of oats,they make excellent beef.They're leaner than a feedlot animal and a little more flavorful than a younger animal as well. | |
