Don't be so fussy...pick up a couple of Boer Goats...the ones with the red heads and white bodies...get females, and more than one. The males will stink by the time they are 2. Should cost maybe $100.00 to $125 each at 3 months old. Free choice hay if its good alfalpha mix is fine. You can give them a handfull of goat ration twice a day but its not necessary. Thats more for does milking or feeding kids. Take a good look at the other goats housed with the ones you buy...take note of the health of them. Look for overall good coats and feet...no lumps on their body. Goats do NOT like to get wet or cold so they need to be in the barn with axcess to a pasture in the summer. I let mine go out with the cows in a very big pasture and they give each other a wide berth, but just a chance for them to graze and get out in the sunshine. Other than that get your son some books or search the net and educate himself on hoof triming, diseases and what they look like. Do not get ones with horns if you can possibly help it...they are nothing but trouble in the long run. They do like to play and are comical to watch. Get collars for them to make it easier to catch them. Tell your son to just spend time with them and eventually they will be all over him when they see him.
