Subject: Re: Skylane: another RTK question

Saranac, Michigan
We did a system for a contractor that built a special tower because he wanted his base antenna above the trees. He started having problems trying to place points on a job. They were off consistantly in the morning. He called and complained about this. We went to the site and the tower looked very impressive, with guy wires and solid base. After many hours of observation, it was found that the sun was heating the triangular structure uneqaullyand over forty ft, that was enough to move the top of the tower 2-3"
The GPS antenna needs to have a good view of the sky, but it also needs to be very stable. The radio antenna should be high enough to get over obstructions. This was a construction situation, but ag is looking for nearly the same accuracy.
