Eastern Iowa | Don, we are using a Rawson drive controlled by an Ag Leader Insight. For years, we used the Rawson to change our corn populations manually. Last year was the first year that we used a prescription based approach. We used Ag Leaders SMS software to write the prescriptions, exported tehm to a CF card and put the card in our Insight. Using a serial cable to connect the Rawson drive to Ag Leaders Insight (more specifically their App Rate module) and we were variable rate planting. I have also written prescription in SMS and exported them as a generic shape file to Farmworks Site Mate VRA being run on a handheld Ipaq with success as well. I'm not as familiar with your John Deere setup. If your JD equipment understands shape files, you could use virtually any software you want to write your prescriptions. We have written ours based on water holding capacity. We may be right or wrong in our thinking but it has worked well for us. Shoot me an email if you have any questions. | |
