Subject: RE: Feeding corn screenings ???

Rockn I have been wondering the same thing and have done a lot of checking on it but haven't fed any yet. I feed holstein steers on self feeders with a corn and ddg ration. When I saw the price of screenings was so much cheaper I asked my feed man, he said most guys replace 20-30% of the corn in the ration max and suggested to use it on bigger calves 700+. The research I found on the internet says that if they are high volume of just broken kernels it is just about the same feed value and energy as corn. The big thing with screenings they say is the potential for mycotoxins, i think that is why the feed man only wants 20-30% of the corn replaced- to dillute it down if there are toxins. The price sounds good, Penford is at $77/ton right now to pick up at CR.
