What GPS receiver are you using? If you have a 132, 332, 252 or similar receiver with two physical com ports, just configure one port for each device and run a data cable to each device. If you only have one physical port, you'll need some sort of splitter cable as you mention, but you can configure the A and B ports for each device just as you would if you had 2 physical ports. The cabling would be your only issue.

The devices won't care about each other, and if you have to run 2 receivers, that shouldn't be a problem either, as long as the antennas don't interfere with each other (physically blocking signal, etc.)
