Turner County, SD | My husband I became empty nesters 10 years ago. As a mother I stuggled more than my husband did. I found I needed to understand what my identity was now that I didn't have children at home. That took about 2 months. We found we really enjoy our adult children. My husband is my best friend and we enjoy doing what we want when we want. It is funny that now it is our kids who are calling or IMing and saying "Shouldn't you be in bed or at home?" They are also questioning what we spend our money on, but that is another story.
I think women may have more difficulty with the empty nest than men.
