Cedar Rapids, Iowa | We've been doing this for 10 years. Machine 1 has a 35' head, set to 34' cut width. Machine 2 has a 40' head set to 39' cut width. We harvest all fields with an A+ heading, either 0 or 90 degrees. When you start out in a field, one of the machines opens a land in the middle of the field, and each machine stays on its side of the field. We try to work chunks a quarter mile wide so the grain cart is only moving at most 1/4 mile across the cut area. If you're in a field that is 1/2 mile wide, we'll do this whole process twice.
When we first pull into a field, the first machine will make enough room to turn a semi around, and then it goes out to open that land in the middle of the field. We do the end-rows and waterways when they are convenient.
You will have times where the last pass across a field isn't a full header width. It is what it is.
For the grain cart, set the implement width to 1 foot and nudge/trim to 6 inches. Just pull the cart up next to either combine and it will autosteer a straight path with the same heading. | |
