Have always bought engine oil from Honda for our atv and they sell us the SJ. Is there any importance or significance to using SJ or is just a generic 10w-30 just fine?

Check your manual and see what they spec. I have a Suzuki DR200 and they spec SF or SG, so I just use regular engine oil. Others don’t use API standards so you might have to find something different.
