Subject: Some ideas

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I think I understand your situation and from my experience I would say "No" to the automatic region switching idea. You could of course, manually switch regions at harvest time if you knew which region you were harvesting. Actual flags could be used or maps would be helpful but I don't know of a way to have the switch done automatically.

As I see this, there would be different approaches that could be used but none would do the automatic switching such as can be done when encountering a different variety.

If you change the actual product each time, the InCommand will create a separate map for each one. Your field as far as the fertilizer goes would have several maps available. While harvesting you could choose any of those maps as the background map so that you could see which fertilizer treatment area you were in and then you could manually change the harvest region name to agree with that area.

I use the idea of watching my planting map when I'm harvesting corn. The map I choose is the corn planting map that was created by that InCommand when it was in the planting tractor in the Spring that planted the corn. The instantaneous yield, moisture etc. still appear in the boxes on the upper right but the onscreen map literally shows the planter passes with nice division lines between passes. This is helpful to me since we plant 24 rows but harvest 8. By being able to view the planter sets, I am able to strike through on either the left, center or right set of 8 rows. In other words when I finish a strip I have exactly 8 rows for the last pass. I can switch back to a harvest map should I wish to at any time.

Another approach I used with an Insight which did not have the ability to show planting or spraying maps while harvesting was to use regions and appropriate names when I made the application. I tried using Headline in selected areas. The entire field was sprayed with the single product that I named Bean Spray. I split the field up into two regions. With this approach I got one map which was the entire field. When spraying, I would indicate "With Headline" as one region and "Without Headline" as the other region. I processed this map with SMS and had SMS create a map based on Regions. This printed map showed the two regions in different colors so it was easy to decide which region I was harvesting.

I printed out this map and hand carried it with me in the combine. I manually changed the regions by observing the printed map. This was fairly simple since I only had two regions. Using this approach with several different regions could get confusing.
