UP / Thumb of Michigan | Going to assume the truck isn't a Michigan Special? Just wondering what the weight rating is on it, or what weight rating you'd like it to be.
Reason I'm asking: we built a straight truck using a LN tractor that came with a 9K front axle. Wasn't nearly heavy enough for what we were using it for. Swapped it out for a 18K front axle out of a salvage yard. It was a pretty painless swap actually. We weren't doing it for the same reason as you are, but it was relatively easy.
With the LTL, you have a pretty wide range of trucks to pick from when looking. I'm pretty sure, going from memory, that any L series trucks will be right, the only differences between the L's (again going from a worn out memory) is drag links, spring hangers and location of them. If you need a 12 or 14K axle, pretty common and should be easy enough to find. The axle we used wasn't actually from a L truck, but the center pin was the same dimensions and location as the L. | |
