Maybe a totally different deal, but this reminded me of the Rodney Heemstra case in Iowa.
Gotta be more to this story than meet's the eyes. Did the local land hawg steel the last piece from someone? Or was the perp hopped up on dope? Who knows but bad deal.

It’s a sad deal but I agree it doesn’t add up.
Why not look on your own?
Why approach someone shooting at you? If someone shot at me I’d at least let someone(911 or family) know before confronting them.
