Faunsdale, AL | Could have just been time!
I would for sure try to repair it. Went through the same process on a Laplant-Choate (later bought by Allis-Chalmers) 4 yard ejector scraper like that. It was probably built for the 1000 psi/1200 relief of 1950’s CAT hydraulic control units, but we got along fine with 2000 psi DEERE tractors until the cable that started lifting the front gate broke and the operator didn’t catch it. Without that initial lift, the end gate cannot move forward. It’s mechanically locked! The higher pressures available pushed the ejector ram right through the end gate….. the first time. After that got repaired and beefed up, a few years later same thing happened again and this time it bulged the cylinder barrel. Hydraulic shop welded a new barrel in it.
So, it may be fine with the bigger cylinder unless it comes under some exceptional load.
Don’t think mine is quite as wide, would have to measure it. Probably a 4 or 5” bore cylinder. Will try to measure in the AM.
