I experimented a few years back on my divers helmet with some industrial ceramic/epoxy coatings that were supposed to provide a wear-resistant lining. The results of my test were poor; most of it ended up flaking off withing a year or two. I think maybe if I had sandblasted the inside of the helmet first to give the epoxy more to bite into it may have held up longer.
