NWMO | Things to consider with striptill is...
Multi product setups never run out at the same time...
Man-power to get multi products to field...
Slower application speeds (acres per day)...
Extra fuel used tranporting products and applying products...
Time value of your time... Timeliness on application ect...
Striptill or Zone fertilizer is 100% most efficient use of fertilizer but come with all the extra costs mentioned above...
We have been Striptill, But never all Dry System but know some that do...
Backstory, We was applying NH3 10-34-0+ATS with dual app bar... Broadcasting K with Two 8 ton carts... Then planting on top of the strips using infurrow 10-34-0 0r 6-24-6. Returning back with Liquid sidress 32% and more ATS... Felt we had great yields but the work load for Two Man opperation Filling tanks, Transporting, and 2-3weeks spring application... 3-4 days Broadcasting... Then 1-2 weeks sidressing... All costs something??? Loose time for tilling/field prep, early planting on soybeans, Plus we do all are own spraying... So with both of us getting older decided time was more of a value than fertilizer savings/efficiency...
Bought a Self Propelled Dry Spreadeder and Sold NH3 wagons/ 2 Dry carts/ ect... Kept fertilizer bars for now? Gonna give it a try this year... I can say we speeded up Spring application to 3-4 days total and those days we can pic by owning are own machine/ hoppers/ & conveyor... Timely before a rain event... Hopeful do the same on topdressing in next few weeks? Only need a 2 day window now with new method... Be interesting after 1st year under our belts if it works as good? Waisting more fertilzer for sure and that's a cost. But MAN the time savings is incredible... Makes everthing else more timely... Will the timely planting make up some? Extra tile? ect...
Just a thought? Probably should have started a New post? But what is everyones opinion? Fertilizer savings possible yeild bump? Vrs Timeliness on other aspects Planting/ Spraying/ Tiling/ Farm cleanups all have value? As we do everything on our farms in house. Nothing is hired out... Plus have time for custom work? Also Fuel Savings? I believe Striptill is the absolute best way, but it comes with a cost that needs to be offset... So We are in trial mode this year... But so far not missing StipTill... When combine rolls we will know more... | |
