Subject: RE: tractor gps for i phone

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
Some years ago I purchased an add on GPS for my iPad. My thought was to use it to mark rocks while doing tillage so I could come back later with a loader and pick them up. Maybe it was the app or maybe it was the add on GPS but I marked some as a test, drove away and tried to use the map to find them again. Some of my test rocks were shown in the neighbors field. Obviously that was not an acceptable arrangement.

Since I had purchased the add on GPS through Amazon, I wa able to return it. I believe it was called ELF or something like that. Maybe I got a bad one since they must work better than my experience showed.

I have been playing around with microcontrollers and have noticed there are some GPS receiver boards that can be used with them. I've considered buying one for experimentation but have not done so yet. Maybe a Winter Project.

I don't know if these use any form of correction such as WAAS. Without some form of correction I wouldn't think they would be very useful for farm applications. Probably good enough if you are in a car accident and need to report your location but likely not good enough for finding rocks or planting.
