I think more in seeds per bushel rather than bushels per thousand. If seeds per bushel gets under 65 k we raise pop. We variable rate so that is by zone. I think running out of nutrients late is a big reason population increase doesnt help. Running out late doesnt allow plant to maximize grain size. Other things can cause that also such as moisture disease or sunlite.
Imo the problem with bushel per thousand in our area is it takes full flex ear hybrids to get over about 8.6. Full flex genetics dont handle the drought and heat stress we get most years. Jmo
