 Alton, Ia | My son went a few years ago, and yeah, I believe he was committed around Christmas, maybe mid January already.
Things he learned:
Left "early" to get started, arrived in Texas and sat for 2 weeks while it rained, in a dry county. You don't get paid for sitting.
He did some combine and grain cart time, but settled in on the trucking. He would haul all day to a local bin site, then leave late for terminal in Fort Worth, IIRC, sleep a few, be up at 5 or 6, dump, then head back to combines. Combine and cart guys don't get paid until it's dry enough to roll, truckers make money while those guys are sitting. Pretty dang smart, I thought.
Bunk beds and campers are not made for 6'4" people. | |
