Parker, SD | We have an international durastar with a 9 liter navistar and a 6spd allison, single axle its pretty handy little rig. Setup with 22ft single axle van trailer and just over 3000 gal worth of water tanks, plus pumps totes ect.
It gets around easy and we plan on putting a ball for towing goosenecks and maybe a bumper pull.
The only thing to be cautious on with a single axle is that's really to much weight, or pushing it, say 2500 gall of 28% at 10.5lbs/gal is over 25000lbs. So best to consider a tandem truck and/or trailer.
The single axle trucks are much easier to find with an Allison or 5/6 speed manual Fuller/Spicer/Eaton/Meritor transmission International probably the most easily found, but Navistar engine history can be left to your own discretion, depending on how fancy/ comfort you want, there's ford f800s, freightliner FL70s or M2 chassis, Kenworth T300s on the lighter side. you can find 379s and W9s with single axles but they're hard to find and probably don't have an automatic or unsplit transmission. plan to pay out if you find one too.
Our previous truck was a 1989 F800 with a 7.8L ford diesel/4 speed Allison. Got the job done, but they were a pickup cab in a class 6 category, cramped and rough to drive. | |
