Medicine Mound,TX | From my experience selling corn seed, and growing corn in the rolling plains. The shorter day corn is not built for heat. Its built for short seasons up north. It pollinates at roughly the same time as longer corn, and the speed comes in grain fill. Which is not what you want when you are maxing GDD every day. You need time to put weight in the kernel. Longer day corn always out yielded shorter on our farm. I quit corn 7 years ago, because we couldn't keep the pigs out of it. | |
