Subject: RE: Corn replant, destroy or spot in

Mid-Michigan
Your scenario is why I'm never the first one out there and don't care. If your an old man (like me) and have faced what your looking at many times, you just won't plant before your gut, the ground and the calendar says so. However, peer pressure is a tremendous motivating factor with farmers. A race to be the first out there and the first to be done. Even at my age, it got me this year. Everything and everyone says plant beans early. Well, the ground was perfect and every swinging weenie around here was working. So, what do I do? Started planting beans April 27th. Only 40 acres but the whole time I was asking what the hell am i doing out here? Been cold and rainy the whole time after but a few of them are coming up. Tomorrow night it's supposed to be 30. I guess i can replant beans much easier than corn. Ive had just as many good beans planted June first as I have may 1st. Corn for me is different. Ibe had corn wiped out by freeze. Now the corn that was i thought was early and going to be great is now wet and late. I'm very glad my corn is in the shed. Good luck to you. Tough decision.
