Western illinois | I used to farm a really wet 80. Twice I had to drive the whole thing and spot in bad areas. I was shocked when the monitor showed 20 acres both times. The moisture difference at harvest was substantial, but the overall yield was good. If the existing stand is really good in places and the bad spots are big enough to accommodate your planter, just drive it and spot it in. Like was said, there is no guarantee the new stand will be better. I’d hate to tear up 75% of a good stand. Replant decisions are never easy.
I’ve seen people tear out a whole field, but not get a complete kill and then they had an issue with volunteer corn. If redoing a whole field, I’d change technologies, if possible. | |
