Leesburg, Ohio
The real answer is Exact Apply.

Short of that (have not traded up to a sprayer with that capability yet), I trim out all waterways before spraying the rest of the field.
And yes, big fields or small, often times in our area, most of the field is sprayed when done trimming.

When things get really tight, I use the manual toggle switches to turn off one side of the boom, drive with my tires next to one side of the waterway, and start shutting off sections on the other side as I get in to a point. Then turn around and do the reverse procedure coming out of the point. Sometimes I straddle a narrow waterway and spray both sides with the center section shut off.

We have one field that has a 1/3 acre triangle point cut off by a waterway at the driveway entrance to that farm. I spray it with the 90' boom.
A couple small fields have places that narrow down to where I have to fold down to 60' to get through.
One of our larger fields is 145 acres and has so many waterways that by the time I finish trimming, I have sprayed over 100 acres.

Never had a field yet that could not be sprayed with a 90' boom, and we have some very small ones, and many with lots of waterways.
Just takes time to trim.

I spray at 13-17 mph. Trim at 10-13.

Exact Apply would be a huge time saver for us.
