 Madison Co. Virginia | If you get to the carcass before any predators, the hooves are a good indicator whether a calf has ever walked around or not. If the cushions on the bottom of the hooves are still intact, the calf was either stillborn, or died before standing up. But those cushions are one of the first things that a predator will peck or chew on, so take that into account.
That applies to cattle; I assume it applies to bison as well. | |
