Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot
We were talking about registered cattle in that thread. Big difference between raising purebred bulls and comm cows for beef. The ones we paid $1500-$1800 for were 3 fers as well, that calf at the side is ready cash. Also bred to calve in Feb, by Sept of next year you've got another saleable calf... if your just talking beef calves. That is one drawback to raising bulls, it doesn't have the cash flow at times when your looking at two years before you sell a calf.

14 mo old bull left here for $1850, that makes the $2800 cow it came out of look a little better. I'm not up on the angus genetics like the wife is, but there are definetly some traits/lines that she is after. Not afraid to pay for them either, but it appears to be paying off. She looked at some more 3 fers yesterday that were a little too expensive for us... must be something in the herd people like. These aren't show cattle either, we are talking about raising bulls for commercial cattlemen and females for us or for other bull breeders.

Your right about comm cows however. That is a tough road right now... actually always has been I think. We started with some commercial hiefers we bought with money left over from college and some 'good luck' money for our wedding. Paid $500/hd. Still getting calves out of most of them.
