E ND | How much sense upright silos make is dependent on how you're harvesting and what you're doing with the feed to me. In the right setup, it's pretty dang nice to go turn on the bunk (auger or continuous trolley style) and give the unloader a few cranks down and walk away to do something else while the tractor and feedwagon sit in the shed. Good quality feed, just slow.
If you have to feed hay every day anyways, or want to run the silo into a feedwagon or TMR mixer to feed elsewhere it's a pretty slow way to feed. Same comment on your harvesting operation/capacity. If you're a one/two man band with a pull-type chopper and plenty of time in the fall to haul wagons and watch it slowly unload into a silo blower with a tractor screaming next to you...go for it.
If you hire it done or have a SP chopper and a lot of acres to go over, probably not an upright silo solution. | |
