Subject: RE: Grazing Low Ground Reed Canary Grass

Wisconsin
Even with zero grazing, the deer, rabbits and mice are still eating it, and every one of them can tell the difference between the "protected" stuff and the vulnerable stuff. The vulnerable stuff SHOULD grow better than the protected with zero grazing, because it costs the plant energy to produce the toxins to protect itself from grazing, but the vulnerable low alkaloid varieties are just too tasty to compete in a mixed stand.
