The first 5 days are required because the corpus luteum needs to be present on the ovary for progesterone to do it's job and this takes roughly 5 days after cycling. Progesterone retracts the corpus luteum which then causes her to ovulate, which if she's bred will cause her to abort. No this will not negatively affect her future cycling...just puts it on a different timeline. | |
