Center of IL | In my area 10-15 years ago there were close to 70,000 hogs raised in a 5 mile radius from my house. Today, its under 20,000 with 2 large operations closed and on the auction block, several mid sized operations abandoned and falling down, one large farm rented by a vet with a sow operation, one mid sized operation rented and converted to finishing only and a couple of guys still raising them the hard way with low investment operations. It used to smell like money, now it just smells like poop.
