| Those are two completely different animals! I have a flail on my excavator and a rotary on my CTL. The flail excels in sizing and not throwing material. I also find it to do a better job than a rotary style on trimming back tree branches, a cleaner cut and less partial straggler branches hanging. Then, what does fall to the ground due to the nature of the flail mowers rotation I find it easier to feed the branches on the ground into the flail and mulch them up where a rotary cutter takes more effort to get the blades to grab that lone branch laying on the ground. Mine works great in grasses as well. Yes maintenance takes more time and effort but all the other benefits make it the choice for me in my situations. Many flails are built different with many different options from brand to brand. Mine has the hammer cutters and sizing teeth under the cutter that the hammers come within an inch of for better mulching and sizing up to 3” material. | |
