NWC Ohio
Back in the mid 2000’s I worked on a 706 that had same issue as yours, probably sat for 10 plus years is what I was told. I drained old fuel out, and put some new in. I drained the fuel filters, put new filters in, and filled the filter housings with 50/50 Seafoam and Lucas injector cleaner. Reprimed fuel system and spun engine over long enough that this mix was coming out of the pump. Left throttle wide open and let it set a few days. Owner went out every day or so and cranked it over for a bit to keep the stuff moving inside. I think it was the second or third attempt it started smoking while cranking over. I went back over and it started right up then. Caution, it was the absolute worst exhaust smell and smoke that I’d ever been around!! It will burn your eyes and nose and make you cough something fierce. So make sure you’re in a well ventilated area. It started and ran fine otherwise. After running for 15 minutes or so the exhaust cleared up enough I was able to start working on some other issues and finally get it to move outside the barn. Engine ran fine for many years without ever touching the injection pump or injectors.
