Well, as it turns out, the microwave is fine.  We were having power (electricity) issues.  The power company was out and worked on some things the afternoon that the mw quit working.  The only symptom that there was an issue was the mw not working properly.............then later, the flickering and dimming of the lights began.  Called the power company back, they came back out and fixed/replaced some other wires, and we are all good now. So glad I don't have to replace the mw!
