Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | Yes, I agree. Some years ago when I purchased a used 9770, I got a newer corn head that had the Deere feelers on it. They would not work with the 9770 since I didn't have a Deere steering system. I removed the feeler assemblies and still have them on a shelf.
It might be different now, but on mine the feeler system that I removed wasn't much - just the feelers and a sensor.
Since I use Ag Leader, I installed a Steady Steer steering in the combine last year. It has its own steering controller and is setup and controlled through the Ag Leader display. Steady Steer steering is based on AB lines and GPS. It works for soybeans but not quite what I wanted for corn.
This year I purchased the Truesight 2 kit which is separate but does use the Steady Steer motor with the Truesight steering controller and feelers. I use one or the other but not both at the same time. I physically need to unplug one and plug in the other when I wish to switch from GPS AB line steering (soybeans) to feeler only steering (corn).
As I understand the OP's situation he may purchase a used corn head that has Deere feelers on it and would like to make use of them which is understandable. My thinking is that this situation is like mine and that the feelers themselves are only a portion of the system. Even if the Deere feelers could be used with a different brand of steering controller (which may or may not be possible), it really doesn't "save" much on the total package as the feeler assembly for a different brand usually includes the feeler assembly with the kit.
If anyone needs just the Deere feelers off of my 608C head, they would be available.
