Last year I tried using my Steady Steer in the combine for corn. I found it useful when striking out a new set of rows to break through on. I was not happy with how it steered in corn, so I just used it to find a correct set of rows and steered manually as before while actually combining corn.
This year I purchased the Headsight 2 feeler system for use in corn. It has a pair of feelers on the corn head and uses its own electronics but connects to the Steady Steer motor. That means in soybeans, the Steady Steer motor turns the steering wheel for me based on AB lines and GPS through my InCommand 1200. In corn, the Steady Steer motor turns the steering wheel for me also but it is based on the feelers and not AB lines.
I do use the planting maps as a background reference while harvesting which helps me pull in on a good set of rows before I engage the feeler system.
This has worked out very well.
I'm interested in TurnPath as it seems like it would only involve updating the firmware which I would do anyway and purchasing the unlock. I'm not sure how helpful it would be for us since we typically plant 48 end rows and with the 24 row planter, don't have much problem turning around for the return path. My understanding is that with the Deere system, hydraulics and other functions can be part of the "turn around" process.
