I still remember the smell of cottonwood burning in the fireplace in the old cabin we had on the Colorado river in Utah. it has a pungent odor all its own. Like the others say, hot & fast... We burned it because that's the only wood there was...the fireplace is all that's left of that old cabin, the SOB that owned the place upriver set the whole river bottom on fire, & the cabin went with it...
