Subject: RE: Posting Policy

39.48, -82.98

Here is our Posting Policy -- 2011 vintage.

It is overdue for a revision.

_______________________________________________________

Since June 2000, AgTalk has had an unwritten code of conduct. Most of our long-term users have understood this code (spelled out briefly in the Terms of Use agreed to at registration) and acted in accordance. But with the growth of AgTalk we have added many new users, some of whom come from other discussion boards with much looser conduct policies. The time has come for us to post a written code of conduct. This policy covers all forums within AgTalk, including the Boiler Room, and may be revised from time to time.

From the beginning, the goal of AgTalk has been to provide a useful forum for the free exchange of ideas. We also want this to be a place where a sense of community can develop and we can enjoy each other’s company. To achieve this, we strive to maintain a civil atmosphere and ask that members of the community be respectful at all times. Please be polite and treat people in a civil manner. If you do this, the rest of the code of conduct won't need more than a cursory mention.

Any messages or information you post to the forum become the sole property of the site operator and may or may not be displayed, at the sole discretion of the site operator. This forum is provided as a public service and your usage of this service may be terminated at any time by the site operator without prior notice.  Information submitted to the system should not be considered confidential or private and may be revealed as part of normal system operations.  No warranty of service is implied.

All posts and uploads made to these forums express the views and opinions of the author. This is a moderated forum, but only in the sense that we deal with content that violates the posting policy once we become aware of it. We do not and cannot review every message posted on AgTalk and are not responsible for the content of these messages. AgTalk users agree not to post to the site or to upload anything that is libelous, threatening, defamatory, obscene, vulgar, pornographic or abusive, suggestive of illegal activity, in violation of copyright or trademark laws, or that otherwise violates any United States law. We reserve the right to delete, move, or edit messages that we deem to be in violation of these restrictions or that are otherwise unacceptable. Where the appropriateness of a particular post is in dispute, the decision of the moderator is final. We reserve the right to remove the posting privileges of users who violate these standards of conduct at any time.

Other sites linked in a message or signature area should not contain material that would violate the AgTalk posting policy. Give a brief description of the linked page. Quoting a sentence or two is acceptable. Do not post lengthy quotes. The signature area should contain no more than three lines of text, including links. AgTalk has long encouraged Mapdots, small images showing a poster’s location. We do allow avatars in their place so long as they conform to the posting policy. Size is limited to 200 by 200 pixels, though 150 by 150 or smaller is better. Animated GIFs are not allowed.

AgTalk is, and has always been, a non-commercial site. Our goal is to provide a useful forum that is free from the clutter of overt advertising. We appreciate and encourage input from sources in the agricultural industry but ask that they conduct their sales elsewhere. The occasional, appropriate image or mention of a product is acceptable, as is a business link in the signature space. We typically allow new users to talk about their products or services and usually let stand new product announcements, so long as they are topical and not of a hard-sell nature. New product announcements should be limited to one post in one forum only.

For Sale or Wanted ads are inappropriate in the AgTalk forum and will be removed. (Please visit our sister site at AgTalk+ for classified options.) Posting messages or images that contain confidential or proprietary information is prohibited.  Repeatedly posting off-topic messages, posting in the wrong forum, posting or uploading copyrighted material without attribution, trolling, spamming, harassing another user, or otherwise deliberately disrupting a forum is unacceptable behavior and may result in a user being banned from AgTalk. Users are encouraged to click the Alert button above a post they find objectionable. Our forums are used by people at work and school and we want to ensure they will not encounter material that will cause them problems or cause their access to our site to be limited, so all content should be safe for work and school.
