I follow many of my conversations up with an e-mail, so I can go back at any time and remind myself of a conversation I forgot. I use text messages because it's a lot faster than calling (assuming it's just a "heads up" type of call) Google is a lot faster than digging it out of my filing cabinet/book shelf.
I bet you're dad says you are spoiled because your combine has AC. I bet your grandfather said your dad was spoiled because he had a Super M instead of a team of horses. I bet your great grandfather said your grandfather was spoiled because he had a team of horses and a sulky plow instead of a horse and wood plow.
