| Without knowing the specific type of land or native grasses it is hard to know why your native grasses aren't more productive. But a monoculture of smooth brome isn't likely an answer. The native grasses have had a tough go of it the last few years in CO, so with all the spring moisture a cool season grass like brome can look very good, but it looked like crap last spring. There are people that sell grass seed in CO that are worth talking with. If it were me I'd try a small area with a dryland grass mix planted with a no till drill. Grasses such as crested wheat or western wheat grass are typically in these mixes. But it won't be cheap as they are 2-3 times the price of brome. | |
