Subject: RE: application rate module necessary? implement switch?

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
You have the multi-product unlock which allows you to create a more complex configuration that can work with both seed and liquid at the same time. Without the multi-product unlock you could work with seed OR liquid separately but not both at the same time.

Planter:
For Seed on the planter you have both the Clutch Control Module and the Seed Tube Monitoring Module. The Clutch Module controls the sections and the Seed Tube monitoring module monitors but does not control the seed in any way. As the Ag Leader diagram shows, an implement switch or switches wired in parallel needs to be connected to the Clutch Control module. This is so the Clutch Control module will activate the Clutches to STOP planting when the planter is raised. The Seed Tube monitoring module will need a jumper in its branch and does not need to be connected to the implement switch. This is my personal situation with seed since I too, have a Clutch Control Module, Seed Tube Monitoring Module and ground drive.

So why is there an implement switch connection on the STTM? It would be used in simple setups where the STTM is the only seed module.

For Liquid, you are using a Liquid Product Control module which has an implement switch branch. This branch must be jumped or more properly tied to an implement switch. This could be a separate switch but tying them into the implement switch or switches for seed will be fine. This is so the spray will shut off when the planter is raised. Auto swath could do this if the Headlands are planted first but using the implement switch is best to insure that the liquid stops when the planter is raised.

I do not see a need for an Application Rate Module on your planter.

Now switching to your drill: The Application Rate module was likely used there to start/stop your seed coverage map. In that situation, the Application Rate Module is working with seed as far as variety/mapping. The Liquid Product Control Module would be working with spray or fertilizer. Both the Application Rate Module and the Liquid Module would need an implement switch connection for this arrangement.

Note on the Planter drawing below. The STTM is jumped. Power from both the Clutch module and the Liquid module are connected to the implement switches. The output from the implement switches tie together and lead to both modules. That means if either or both implement switches are making contact such as when the planter is down, both the Clutch module and the Liquid module will be informed and operate properly. When the planter is raised both implement switches will open and both the Clutch module and the liquid module will be informed and the Seed would stop as well as the liquid. The seed and spray maps will both start/stop coverage correctly. These activities might be stopped for other reasons such as auto swath or operator input to the Master or Section switches.

Note on the Drill drawing below. The Application Rate Module is working with mapping the seed. The Liquid module is working with a liquid. Both modules are supplying power (one would be sufficient) to the two implement switches. Again the output from these switches tie together and lead to both modules. Again if either switch makes contact, both modules will spring into action, the Application Rate module will start a coverage map for the seed. The Liquid module will start applying and controlling the liquid. The variety and liquid maps would be separate. When the drill is raised both switches open and seed coverage map as well as the Liquid Application activities stop.
