Exporting the "work" data is in Analyze now. So you pull up what you want in the report and then on the right hit export and you can choose to export as shape file. I haven't done it this way yet, but it looks like you might be able to get even more exported than the old way before at one time. 

I'm not sure what step isn't there anymore as far as your assigning question. That was all done on the files page before right? Or where were you doing that before in the old way?
