There is something to be said for excellent communications between the landowner and tenant. It is the responsibility of the tenant to initiate (and maintain) that communication process.

There is something to be said for protecting your reputation in a farming community if you intend to have any form of success and especially if you intend on taking care of a family. Going to confront people when you are obviously a little hot under the hat is not a good way to continue the process of protecting your good name.

There is something to be said for maintaining the competitive edge and providing your land owner with something no one else can provide. Maybe you can't compete on price but you can compete on how how well you care for the ground and can create an atmosphere that makes the land owner feel involved. Maybe it's the other way around. Maybe it's something else. But you've got to provide something for them that no one else can do better. You have to remember that it's their land, not yours and they are entitled to get whatever they can out of it to the point of satisfaction to them.

I'm not saying JohnKS did any of these things wrong. However had he done them all right to the best of his capabilities, my guess is that he would still have the land. This is a perfect opportunity for him to sit back and analyze why things went wrong rather than doing some things that would cause his reputation within the community to deteriorate.

Assuming he has done all of the above perfectly, then he is probably the type of person that has the composure to make a rational confrontation that will not cause him problems. If he is that guy, then yes, there is something to be said for getting something off one's chest...
