He made a judgement as many of us had long before Walter's contribution. So many years of senseless killing, yet the light was always at the end of the tunnel while amercans were sacrificing their young on a senseless objective. Perhaps Walter had the uncanny ability to sense that the war propaganda was what is was. BS.

We have recently been through the same type of situation and the siren song is always the same. Carry on and we will be victors. What is victory? Winning a war that we shouldn't be in in the first place? Walter Cronkite did our nation a service. He turned public opinion in the right direction. His reputation for honesty made the difference.

You of all people should recognize what a tragedy it would have been to sacrifice your courageous son on the field of battle in a fruitless unnecessary war. Nothing is worth that risk against a nation of no threat to the sovereignty of the United States.
