Subject: Fuller FRO16210C Question

Eastern WA
So, I've got the transmission out to change the synchro. While it was out it seemed like the input shaft had an excessive amount of wiggle it. Took the bearing cover off and removed the bearing and input shaft and was looking at changing the input shaft with the bearing but Eaton shows a new updated shaft. The new shaft has just straight cut gears instead of stepped and requires kit K-3419. With the kit it looks like I would have to change the main gear inside the case which looks like it could be a bear of a job.

So can I get away with just running my old input shaft with a new bearing or am I opening myself up for a larger failure down the road by not replacing with the kit? This truck only gets 5-7.5k miles a year so I was hoping this might buy me a decade of use before having to potentially drop in a reman.

Thanks,
TM
